bedroom set makeover
We recently finished this custom order for a complete bedroom set makeover and wanted to share.
A friend reached out to us that she had several pieces that she wanted to refresh. We got so excited to see this gorgeous antique set! We remembered to take a before picture of one of the pieces :-) Love the curved dressers like this!
It was really pretty before, but some of the pieces had damage and she was hoping to give the set a classic black color. One of our favorite black paints is General Finishes Lamp Black. You'd think black paint is black paint and they'd all look the same, but that is not true! The Lamp Black color is perfectly rich and gives a classy finish.
We don't always prime pieces, but they had a shiny surface and we felt we needed a solid primer so that we wouldn't have issues with paint pulling off during application. Worked like a charm!
Here are the pretty "after" pictures.

After painting, we distressed around the edges to show the beautiful wood underneath. I love distressing black, it defines the lines and shows the details that would otherwise get lost.
The original knobs were a must, they were so pretty and you wouldn't find these at the store today. They did need a fresh coat of spray, so we chose Rustoleum Flat Chestnut. We highly recommend Flat Chestnut against black when you are going for a look that sets itself apart from the black color, yet blends nicely.
We finished with a clear wax (we use Johnson's Paste Wax or Annie Sloan) and General Finishes High Performance Top Coat in flat for the top.
A few more of our favorites:
The antique clock is a family heirloom in my own home - I couldn't resist taking a few close ups. I think it fit this set perfectly!
