for the love of empires

I think we will go on the record to say that empires are drop dead gorgeous!! We rarely pass up the chance to buy one. The curves, the farmhouse feel, just everything about them is fantastic and they always offer the perfect chance to try fun colors. For this one, we went a bit more neutral with a rich navy.

We are loving it!!! We recently had completed a custom order for a client in this same color. She wanted a deep navy so we custom mixed one of our favorite navy shades from General Finishes - coastal blue, with some black to take a navy that leaned blue to a navy that leans black. Very rich indeed!! We used about 2/3 blue to 1/3 black and I think the result was a "Sophisticated Navy"....

It's amazing how the same color on 2 different pieces can take on completely different looks. Here is a shot of the original buffet that we created that custom color for:

We always cross our fingers that the top of our pieces will sand down and stain well - this one just made us super happy. We used a beautiful stain from general finishes - brown mahogany, which provided such a nice contrast to the navy:

The wooden knobs add just the right touch for this piece and let the curves be the star of the show :

After distressing, we finished this buffet with an application of soft wax to offer protection as well as a smooth finish.
